개정판 출간에 즈음하여

2015년 10월 23일.

이날은 나 개인적으로 너무나 감격적인 날이다. 미국에서 카이로프랙틱을 전공 한 후 25년간 수많은 역서 출간, 강의 및 임상을 바탕으로 꾸준하게 공부해온 결실로 맺어진 ‘도수치료 테크닉’ 도서를 처음 발행한 날이기 때문이다. 그러나 이 도서 출간이 나에게 기쁨만으로 존재하는 것은 아니었다. 나의 이면의 심정에서 내 모든 지식이 발가벗겨져 드러난 채 세상에 내 던져진 듯한 부담스럽고도 한편 두려운 마음에 한없이 작아지는 나 자신을 보았기 때문이다. 그래서 그 당시 내가 감히 책을 출간한다는 것 자체에 대한 중압감에 저자의 글은 엄두도 낼 수 없었기에 저자의 글이 없는 저서가 출간되는 해프닝이 발생했다.

​

이러한 마음의 빚을 조금이라도 없애기 위해 출간 후 지금까지의 7여 년은 나름 여한 없이 앞만 보고 달려 온 정진의 길이었다. 이는 오롯이 독자 여러분들의 저에 대한 믿음과 아껴 주시고 사랑해 주신 응원의 힘 앞에 카이로프랙틱이라는 학문 분야에서만은 한 줌 부끄러움 없는 존재가 되어야 한다는 나만의 약속이자 마음 다짐이 아니면 이뤄낼 수 없는 시간이기도 했다. 공부의 세월이 지날수록 놀라운 두 가지의 사실을 깨닫게 되었는데, 하나는 내 실력이 너무나 부족하다는 점과 학문에는 정상이 없으며 앞으로 내가 해야 할 공부가 끝없이 더 많이 쌓여 있다는 사실이다.

개정판을 내면서 이제야 저서의 글을 쓰는 것은 부끄럽지 않은 실력을 갖추었기 때문이 아니라 이번 계기가 나에게 절차탁마하는 또 다른 새로운 공부의 출발점이 되기를 바라는 마음에서이다. 비록 미흡한 도서이지만 독자 여러분의 학문 및 임상 발전에 길잡이가 되고 밑거름이 될 수 있길 간절히 바라는 마음에 이 책을 바친다.

본 연구회에서는 2015년 도수치료 테크닉 초판에서 도수치료를 널리 알리고자 출간의 필요성을 느껴, 시리악스 테크닉을 바탕으로 저술하였습니다. 그리고 각종 여러 저명한 도수치료 테크닉을 첨가하여, 그동안의 임상경험과 학문적 근거를 바탕으로 한 도수치료 테크닉을 보완했습니다. 본 초판 저서에서는 시리악스 도수치료와 카이로프랙틱을 기본으로 하여 멀리간과 멕켄지, 정골요법 등의 세계적으로 정평이 나 있는 훌륭한 도수치료 테크닉들을 소개한 바 있습니다.

그 후 7년간 도수치료 전문가들의 응원과 사랑에 힘입어 2판 발행을 축하하게 됨을 진심으로 기쁘게 생각합니다. 그동안 애독자 여러분들의 요청을 받아들여 도수치료 테크닉 내용에 촉진학의 이론 및 실습과 악관절 그리고 늑골 도수치료까지 추가하여 가히 도수치료 교재의 총서라 할 수 있는 새로운 교재를 출간하게 되었습니다.

2판 역시 테크닉 실습 위주로 기술되어 있으며, 초판에서의 CD는 각 주제마다 QR 코드를 설치하여 간편하고 손쉽게 영상을 활용하여 실습할 수 있도록 개선되어 있어 이점 또한 또 다른 장점으로 볼 수 있겠습니다.

다시 한번 책이 나오기까지 애쓰신 모든 분들의 노고를 치하하는 바이며, 어려운 의료 환경에서도 고분분투하시는 여러 의료인 선생님들의 건투를 빌며, 본 교재가 조금이나마 도움이 되길 진심으로 기원합니다.
